Like, I get the criticism against the removal of gay subtext. Honestly, I get it. But at the same time, I’m also very curious as to how they’ll handle a version of Watson that hasn’t been done before to my knowledge - not to mention the bonus of major Asian character and major female character. I just. Fuck, I don’t even know where I’m going with this. I’m on the fence, I suppose. 

No, I don’t think you guys understand. This isn’t a “racist/sexist” thing. I mean. It’ great that she’s getting a huge role, but don’t call it a “Sherlock Holmes Adaptation” BECAUSE IT’S NOT. It’s a crime drama set in New York with an intelligent man and his tough-as-nails foil. Sherlock Holmes is the story of two white men living in London. Whether you think that’s PC or not is your own opinion, and you can take that up with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

So please don’t make this a racist or sexist thing, because it’s not. It’s a problem with CBS and their choice to call it a Sherlock Holmes drama.

Plus, they’re already fucking up. Girl!Watson isn’t an honourably discharged military doctor with a war wound, she’s a disgraced surgeon. Even without knowing anything else about their portrayal and where they’re going with it, they’ve removed Watson’s history as a soldier, his competency at his job, and his wound in action - all of which can be attributed to the fact Watson is no longer a male, so these no longer stereotypically ‘fit’. Girls can’t be soldiers, even military doctors, that’s a man’s job! War wounds aren’t sexy on girls, so can’t be having that either! Well then, if she’s just a regular doctor, why would she be available to help Holmes….obviously she fucked up! I mean, being a surgeon is so stressful and difficult, it makes sense that someone like her would crack under pressure and mess up enough to be disgraced!

By removing pretty much the entirety of Watson’s backstory, but keeping the name, it sends a very negative message about what a change in sex for the character’s adaption means for the character. This is not the time to be celebrating having a strong female WOC on a show, because before the show has aired, it is fucking up. People aren’t being antifeminist or racist for pointing out the issues this is raising.

If they wanted to be feminist and progressive, they should have kept Watson’s backstory exactly the same, regardless of the character’s sex. Hell, they should have made both Watson and Holmes women. This is not feminist or progressive.

i would of liked it if they made both of them women,that would of been fun to see,but all i see now is them pairing I GUESS ITS GONNA BE JONNA and sherlock in the show,making them have sex probly at one point in time,its just americas way to crap on yet another thing
